Prof. Dan Dungaciu – President

Dan Dungaciu is professor at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work of the University of Bucharest, director of the Institute of Political Sciences and International Relations of the Romanian Academy (IRRA). He is coordinator of the Master’s Program of Security Studies and Information Analysis at the University of Bucharest. He studied and worked as associate researcher in many Western institutions: Fernand Braudel Institute (Binghamton, USA), Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Study (Erfurt, Germany), Department of Political Sciences and Public Administration – Law, Economics and Political Sciences School of Athens (Athens, Greece), Central European University (Budapest, Hungary), Department of Social Sciences – Great Britain, Polytechnic University (Cambridge, Great Britain), Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen (Vienna, Austria), Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology (Halle, Germany), Triangle Research Center (North Carolina, USA) etc. He is a member of numerous international and national associations. He is a laureate of the Dimitrie Gusti prize for sociology of the Romanian Academy (1995) and International Prize for Sociology of the University of Istanbul (2001). He is holder of the special state distinction “Merit of Honor” in Republic of Moldova (2009). In the year 2010 he held the position of president adviser for European integration for the president of Moldova. He is author of tens of studies and papers on these subjects, the most recent being: Bessarabia is Romania? (2011), Elements for a Theory of Nation and Nationalism (2012).
